Ryan Smith

Biography

In 1996 Ryan Smith released his first solo CD entitled, "Stream of Unconsciousness."
Cake Magazine likened the CD to "... a musical experience like the kind you had when you
first listened to 'Sergeant Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band' or Pink Floyd's 'The Wall.'"
Shortly thereafter, Ryan formed the Melismatics and the band released their debut
CD, "Ryan Smith & the Melismatics." Again this 9-track, 22 minute CD met with critical acclaim.

Line-up changes in 1999 brought members of some of Minneapolis's best known bands
(12 Rods, Mark Mallman, Greazy Meal, and Detroit) into the group. This fierce-four-piece recently
had seven songs featured in the independent film "Now Hiring" (Kwikisto Pictures) in which
singer Ryan Smith also played a supporting role. The 'debut' CD from these new members
is entitled "Postmodern Rock." The Melismatics have honed their sound and crafted an irresistible
brand of rock by combining their new wave, space-rock, punk and power-pop influences. The new
interactive CD, "Postmodern Rock" features 13 new tracks as well as the music video for the song "Can't Relate."
